Peter Combe

Before Justine Clarke, Jay Laga’aia and The Wiggles, the undisputed king of the kids in Aussie children’s entertainment during the 80s and 90s was Peter Combe – and his music is still as relevant and engaging as ever. Peter, a trained primary school teacher, is from South Australia and beloved by kids and parents who appreciate his clever and engaging lyrics and ebullient and often quirky performing style. He is certainly regarded as the trailblazer in terms of bringing children’s entertainment into the mainstream.
We have the complete range of Peter Combe music at Educational Esteem. A great place to start if you are unfamiliar with Peter’s Work is with Spaghetti Bolognaise that features the ever-popular Mr Clicketty Cane (“wash your face in orange juice/clean your teeth with bubble gum”), Spaghetti Bolognaise (“I love it every day/Spaghetti Bolognaise”) and the wonderfully catchy Parcel in the Post.
Toffee Apple is an essential for any family music collection and was the first ever children’s album to win an ARIA (Australian recording industry gong) in 1987. Toffee Apple is a catchy and fun tune that is bound to delight the whole family and other classic Combe tunes on this album include Juicy Juicy Green Grass (a great sing-along-in-the-car song) and Cats – a quirky ode to felines.
With Christmas fast approaching, there are two lovely albums for the festive season that will engage parents as well as kids with the Australiana-themed tunes and modern takes on traditional carols. Peter Combe’s Christmas Album is, in Peter’s own words, “…the realisation of a dream of mine to compose and record a set of new Christmas songs for children and their families…”. The CD features six choirs and will make a wonderful addition to your collection of Christmas music to enjoy with the family. There’s also Wake Up, It’s Christmas that has songs written and performed by Peter, who is accompanied by a string quartet. The CD also contains a song lyric booklet.
Peter Combe is an eternal favourite with kindergarten and early primary years teachers. In fact, Peter Combe built up his enormous following by touring schools around the country in the 80s and 90s. As well as CDs, we have DVDs and songbooks (Peter Combe Singalong Book) as resources for teachers and education specialists.
Another great way to get into Peter Combe would be the Peter Combe Triple CD Pack that has Spaghetti Bolognaise, Toffee Apple and Newspaper Mama.
Not content with being one of Australia’s premier singer-songwriters, Peter also has CDs full of rhyme, dance and storytelling fun – Little Groover (45-minutes of dance, riddle and rhyme fun), Classic Fairytales (four classics read and sung by Peter) and Thelma Brown Lived in a Zoo (25 songs about animals)are great for your active littlies.
Peter is still performing around the country and overseas and has a new album called Kiddy Winks that is  in store now.
